Strategic Technology Advisor


Location: Alberta or BC

Salary: $100,000 - $115,000 per year plus performance based bonus.

KAN Recruitment is currently seeking a Strategic Technology Advisor (STA/vCIO) for an established Managed Service Provider (MSP) client. The successful candidate may be located anywhere in Alberta.

The Strategic Technology Advisor will serve as a trusted advisor to assigned customers, helping business leaders align their technology investments with their organizational goals.

This role provides executive-level consulting, develops long-term technology roadmaps, identifies business risks and opportunities, and recommends strategic initiatives to improve security, productivity, operational efficiency, and return on investment.

This is a technology strategy and business consulting position—not a commercial account management role. Commercial discussions, renewals, licensing, agreements, quoting, and proposal administration are managed by the Client Success Manager with support from the Design Desk.

Responsibilities:

Strategic Account Management

  • Serve as the trusted technology advisor for assigned customers.

  • Build strong relationships with executives and key stakeholders.

  • Understand each customer’s business goals, challenges, and future plans.

  • Align technology recommendations with measurable business outcomes.

  • Develop and maintain a multi-year technology roadmap for every assigned customer.

Executive Consulting

  • Lead Quarterly Business Reviews and annual strategic planning sessions.

  • Present executive-level reports and recommendations.

  • Advise customers on budgeting, technology lifecycle planning, investments, and risk management.

  • Translate complex technical concepts into practical business language.

Technology and Cybersecurity Strategy

  • Assess customer environments against company standards and industry best practices.

  • Identify technology debt, aging infrastructure, cybersecurity concerns, and operational risks.

  • Develop recommendations for modernization, standardization, and improved cybersecurity.

  • Guide customers in adopting technologies and practices related to:

  • Microsoft 365

  • Cloud services and Microsoft Azure

  • Identity and access management

  • Endpoint security

  • Email security

  • Backup and disaster recovery

  • Security awareness training

  • Zero Trust principles

Strategic Opportunity Identification

Identify initiatives that improve customer operations, including:

  • Infrastructure refreshes

  • Cloud and Microsoft 365 modernization

  • Cybersecurity improvements

  • Artificial intelligence adoption

  • Network upgrades

  • Business continuity improvements

  • Business process automation

  • Digital transformation initiatives

Customer Success

  • Monitor customer health and progress toward strategic goals.

  • Identify business and technology risks before they become operational issues.

  • Encourage the adoption of strategic recommendations.

  • Support customer retention through proactive planning and ongoing value creation.

  • Act as each customer’s long-term technology advisor.

Requirements:

  • 5+ years of experience in IT consulting, managed services, or technology leadership.

  • Previous MSP experience is strongly preferred.

  • Experience developing technology strategies and long-term roadmaps.

  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft 365, Azure, cloud services, networking, and cybersecurity.

  • Ability to lead client meetings and present recommendations to business leaders.

  • Strong communication, relationship-building, and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to explain technical information in clear business language.

  • Relevant IT education or certifications are considered an asset.

  • Valid driver’s licence and ability to travel within Alberta as required.
